Marc Nikenson had an interception return for a touchdown tonight for the Durango football team in an 8-0 win over Sierra Vista to snap an 11-game losing skid for the Trailblazers.
Durango’s other points came on a safety, when a Sierra Vista lineman was called for holding in the end zone.
“It feels really good to get a win,” Durango coach Robert Cutts said of breaking the streak. “The kids worked really hard in the offseason, and it’s starting to come together. We needed to believe on ourselves.”
Grabbing a win against Sierra Vista — a neighboring school in the southwest valley — was an added bonus for Durango (1-2 overall).
“This is a big game in the southwest,” Cutts said. “The kids grew up going to school together and playing against each other.”
