Bishop Gorman quarterback Micah Alejado (12) passes during the first half of the Class 5A Division I state championship football game against Liberty at Allegiant Stadium Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023.

The postseason awards are continuing to pile up for Bishop Gorman quarterback Micah Alejado.

He was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year on Wednesday, capping a senior season that saw him throw no interceptions in leading Gorman to an undefeated record and the national championship. It’s the second straight season Alejado won the Gatorade award.

“Great kid; great competitor,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said in November after the Gaels beat Liberty for the state title. “You can’t replace that. We are going to miss that kid.”

The honor is no surprise. Alejado was also picked as the national player of the year by MaxPreps.

“Thank you to my parents, coaches, and brothers,” he posted on social media in response to the Gatorade award.

Alejado, who signed last month to play collegiately at Hawaii, completed 144 of 186 passes for 2,714 yards and 35 touchdowns. For his career, he had 9,061 passing yards and 124 touchdowns — and just four interceptions.

“Taking care of the ball is a really, really big part of being a quarterback,” Alejado told the Sun in November. “You can’t do anything without having the ball, so I really pride myself on that.”

He’s the eighth Gorman player to win the award, following the likes of 2019 winner Rome Odunze — the University of Washington receiver who projects as a first round NFL draft pick in April.
