Man accused of trying to break into police vehicle in Las Vegas

A man is accused of attempting to break into a Metro Police vehicle at their headquarters Friday morning while wearing with a tactical vest and armed with a knife before being arrested by officers, according to officials from the department.

Christopher Egenlauf, [TK AGE], was arrested at Metro Headquarters on South Martin L. King Boulevard after he allegedly attempted to use a knife to break into a forensics vehicle in a restricted parking lot. Forensics vehicles are used by law enforcement at crime scenes for investigations but do not carry any weapons, Deputy Chief Dori Koren said.

Egenlauf was wearing a tactical vest with plates, and his vehicle was located in another restricted area of police headquarters. No other weapons were found in his vehicle, and police are still trying to identify a motive for the attempted break-in.

Eganlauf has not been charged with anything yet, but Koren said likely charged will include attempted battery and trespassing. Koren also said they are looking into potential previous contacts between Metro and Egenlauf in the past but have no specifics yet.
