A woman died Friday night after she was struck by a car while sitting in the road, according to Metro police.
The incident occurred on Needles Highway south of Aha Macav Parkway, police said. A Chevrolet Volt with three passengers when northbound on the highway when they came upon on the woman sitting in the road wearing dark clothing. The car attempted to avoid the pedestrian but failed, hitting the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said. The woman’s death is the 44th traffic-related death under Metro police’s jurisdiction, and the incident is still under investigation by police.
