A new community center opening this week in the Silverado Ranch area has everything you’d expect in a new facility — space for fitness, meetings and socializing.

And it has some things you might not expect: an indoor walking track and a demonstration kitchen — two features unique to this facility.

The $22.4 million project is the first community center to open in Clark County in almost a decade.

County Commissioner Michael Naft, whose district encompasses the 40,000 square foot facility, said its opening will improve the quality of life for area residents, raise property values and provide safe spaces for people to thrive.

“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to finally open this incredible facility,” Naft said in a statement. “After talking with neighbors in the area, bringing their ideas to life, and now opening its doors, I know the Silverado Ranch Community Center will serve the area well.”

The highlight of the new build is the demonstration kitchen, which includes a cooktop with gas burners, a stand mixer, microwave, oven, sink and large stainless-steel refrigerator. It also features seating around the countertop for demonstrations.

“We have Clark County’s first demonstration kitchen housed in this building,” Naft said at a tour of the facility. “That’s where people will actually be able to take classes on healthy eating, on wellness, how to prepare meals in their community, in their homes, and they’ll be able to do it in a communal setting like this.”

Naft was presented with the idea for the indoor track by a few women he met who were walking in Silverado Ranch Park and asked for a hot-weather alternative. The park is adjacent to the center.

“It’s a place for no matter what stage or age of life you are in, whether you’re a young family with kids, whether you’re an empty nester with limited mobility, whether you’re an athlete, there is something for you here,” Naft said, referring to this facility as a second home for people.

Naft said the facility will serve people with limited resources by hosting workshops, trainings and possibly job connect programs. It also provides affordable recreation and kids’ summer programs.

The center also features meeting rooms, various types of classrooms, a dance and yoga studio, a game room and a gym. It also has a fitness room that operates under a membership system.

Additionally, it is the first in Clark County to feature electric vehicle charging stations and an outdoor artificial grass amphitheater. The parking lot has features that will allow it to be closed off for possible future events such as farmers’ markets.

The grand opening is 10 a.m. Saturday. Normal hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It is located at 9855 Gilespie Street.

“Really, nobody is left without something to do in this building,” Naft said. “And I think that is one of the things that will make it such a special place.”
