The Henderson City Council on June 2 will consider a proposal for an 180,000 square-foot, two level sports facility on the southeast corner of St. Rose and Maryland parkways.

A state-of-the-art, $70-million indoor sports complex could be coming to Henderson, pending approval next month by the city council.

The facility would span 180,000 square feet and two levels at the southeast corner of St. Rose and Maryland parkways, and is the creation of a public-private partnership between the City of Henderson and Chicago, Ill.-based KemperSports, according to a release.

“We are proud to be leaders of public-private partnerships that have benefited our residents,” said Richard Derrick, Henderson city manager and CEO, said in the release. “We are excited to see the successes of this indoor sports complex, just as we have seen with the America First Center and Lee’s Family Forum.”

The complex will feature basketball courts with the ability to be converted for volleyball, pickleball and other uses, as well as a hybrid turf field for indoor soccer and football and box lacrosse.

It will also serve as a space for family entertainment, the release emphasized, with birthday party and community rooms and the potential for bowling, laser tag, arcade games, miniature golf and a restaurant and bar.

Henderson residents will be eligible for 20% discounts on all amenities.

The complex in west Henderson will be paid for through the public-private partnership, and one-time funding sources like the West Henderson Development Fund, City Municipal Facilities Fund and public infrastructure bond sale, per the release.

Public-private partnerships like the city’s with KemperSports will provide Henderson taxpayers with recreational amenities while relieving them of a long-term financial impact, the city said in the release.

“We are looking forward to partnering with the City of Henderson to bring their innovative vision of a state-of-the-art sports complex to life,” Steve Goris, KemperSports senior vice president, said in a statement. “This complex will be a tremendous community asset for local residents and a destination for youth sports families.”

The complex is expected to attract local and regional sports tournaments, with a positive economic impact on the city of $1.5 million in annual tax revenue, $9.1 million in total economic output annually and $10.7 million in wages and salary, according to the release.

The proposed sports complex was recommended Tuesday for final approval at the council’s July 2 meeting.
