Patti Scialfa reveals she's got blood cancer in new documentary

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – Bruce Springsteen’s wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa (skee-AL’-fah), says she is dealing with blood cancer. Scialfa, who is 71, revealed in the new documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band” that she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018. She says the disease affects her immune system, including how much she can perform. A Scialfa spokesman says no additional information will be released, including whether Scialfa is seeking treatment.

Flavor Flav loses his grip at NYSE closing bell

NEW YORK (AP) – Traders at the New York Stock Exchange nearly got hit by a gavel after Flavor Flav lost control of it at the closing bell. After Olympic women’s water polo goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson rang the closing bell yesterday, Flav hit the gavel so hard that it flew out of his hands. He encouraged traders to toss it back up to him, then he pounded the gavel repeatedly. Flav became the hypeman for Team USA water polo after a member of the team told of the team’s financial struggles and he became a sponsor.

Eminem will performing opening number at VMAs

NEW YORK (AP) – Eminem will open the MTV Video Music Awards. He’s also up for eight awards, including video of the year. Taylor Swift has 12 nominations, while Post Malone has 11. Megan Thee Stallion will host the VMAs, which will air live from New York on MTV tomorrow.

Sha Na Na's Screamin' Scott Simon dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Pianist Screamin’ Scott Simon of the band Sha Na Na has died of sinus cancer at the age of 75, according to Billboard magazine. Simon joined Sha Na Na in 1970, which means he missed out on performing at Woodstock, but he made it into the movie “Grease.” In fact, he co-wrote the song “Sandy” that appeared in that movie. Simon was part of all four seasons of “The Sha Na Na Show” variety series in the late 1970s.
