Desert Pines High graduate Greg Burrell, who scored his first college touchdown Saturday in his second game with UNLV football, was honored today as the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league announced.

The true freshman Burrell finished with 101 rushing yards on 11 carries in Saturday’s 72-14 win over Utah Tech.

UNLV (2-0) gained a school-record 695 yards. The 72 points tied for second most in program history.

Burrell’s touchdown came on a 4-yard run midway through the third quarter. His day also included a 42-yard run.

UNLV at 4 p.m. Friday plays host Kansas (1-1) in a rematch of last season’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl in which the Rebels lost 49-36
