“Shogun” sets new Emmys record

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Primetime Emmys are not until Sunday, and already “Shogun” has set a record for the most Emmys ever for a single season. “Shogun” has won 14 Emmys so far, thanks to the Creative Arts Emmys over the weekend. The previous record-holder was 13 for the 2008 limited series “John Adams.” “Shogun” could win five more Emmys this Sunday. “The Bear” won seven Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys, including best guest actress for Jamie Lee Curtis. The songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are now members of the EGOT club, winning their first Emmy for a song used in the series “Only Murders in the Building.”

Morgan Wallen gets 7 CMA nominations

NEW YORK (AP) – Morgan Wallen leads the nominations for the Country Music Association Awards with seven, and he can thank Post Malone for that. Their song “I Had Some Help” made up four of those nominations, including single of the year. Wallen is up for the top award, entertainer of the year. He will compete against Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton and the reigning entertainer of the year, Lainey Wilson. Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter” album was snubbed. She had said when she released it that she made it after an experience where she did not feel welcomed, which many took as a reference to her appearance at the CMAs in 2016. This year’s CMAs are set for Nov. 20 in Nashville, and they will air on ABC.

Vanna White does not get to keep the gowns

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Vanna White has worn more than 8,000 gowns over her time on “Wheel of Fortune.” White says she does not keep any of the dresses, but occasionally she’s allowed to borrow one for special occasions. White says she knows that what she wears has “become a huge thing,” with people caring as much about what color she’s wearing as what’s going with the game. The new season of “Wheel of Fortune,” with Ryan Seacrest as host, starts today.

“Elton John: Never Too Late” focuses on his early career

TORONTO (AP) – Telling the story of Elton John’s 50-year career would have taken way longer than a movie allows. Telling the story of his first five years – and 13 albums – gives a lot of insight into him, according to John’s husband, David Furnish, and director R.J. Cutler. Their documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” looks at John’s rise to fame and the huge creative output he had in his early years. Furnish says John has never really talked about what he was going through at the time, but John does in the documentary. It’s showing at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will have a limited theatrical run starting Nov. 15 and stream on Disney Plus starting Dec. 13.

Kevin Costner doesn't do CGI

VENICE, Italy (AP) – The reason you don’t see a lot of crazy computer-generated effects in Kevin Costner's movies is because he doesn’t really know how to do that. Costner says he knows “how to film horses and fires and fighting,” and “love and stuff,” but he doesn’t know “how to make ships fly.” He says his movies are going to be a little simpler as a result. Costner debuted the second part of his “Horizon: An American Saga” trilogy at the Venice Film Festival. It will be in theaters later this year.
