Harvey Weinstein indicted on additional sex crimes charges ahead of New York retrial

NEW YORK (AP) – Disgraced ex-movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on additional sex crimes charges ahead of his retrial in New York, Manhattan prosecutors said at a hearing Thursday. The indictment will remain under seal until Weinstein’s arraignment, which could happen as early as Sept. 18. Weinstein, 72, is recovering from emergency heart surgery Monday at a Manhattan hospital and was not at Thursday’s hearing. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office disclosed at a recent court hearing that prosecutors had begun presenting to a grand jury evidence of up to three additional allegations against Weinstein, dating as far back as the mid-2000s.

Taylor Swift wins big at MTV Video Music Awards, ties Beyoncé’s record and thanks Travis Kelce

NEW YORK (AP) – Taylor Swift has won the biggest award at the MTV Video Music Awards — the trophy for video of the year for “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. She thanked her boyfriend Travis Kelce and asked her fans to register to vote. Swift took home seven awards, bringing her to a career total of 30. That means she has tied Beyoncé’s record and both hold the title of most-awarded musician in VMA history. Sabrina Carpenter won the MTV Video Music Award for song of the year for “Espresso.” Katy Perry performed and accepted the Video Vanguard Award, which she received from her partner, Orlando Bloom. Chappell Roan won best new artist. Roan also confronted a photographer on the red carpet.

Jon Bon Jovi helps talk woman down from ledge on Nashville bridge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jon Bon Jovi and a video production assistant have talked down a woman standing on the ledge of a pedestrian bridge in Nashville. Police say the encounter happened Tuesday on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. The Tennessean reports that Bon Jovi was filming a music video on the bridge, which remained open to the public. Video of the encounter showed the assistant talking to the woman. Bon Jovi approached slowly, waved to her and joined in the conversation. Eventually the woman turned around to face the two, and they helped her over the railing to safety. Bon Jovi hugged her.

Lacey Chabert works up one Christmas party for “Celebrations with Lacey Chabert”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Lacey Chabert (shah-BAYR’) has been in more than 30 films for the Hallmark Channel, and almost all of them involve Christmas. It’s natural for her to think Christmas on her new series, “Celebrations with Lacey Chabert.” It’s a series in which she helps plan parties for ordinary people doing extraordinary things. There are different themes, and Chabert admits her “Christmas-loving heart” worked in a Christmas party. “Celebrations with Lacey Chabert” is featured on Hallmark’s new streaming service, Hallmark Plus, available now.

Natasha Rothwell created and stars in “How To Die Alone”

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Natasha Rothwell created the comedy “How To Die Alone” to help her figure out the difference between loneliness and being alone. Rothwell plays a woman without many prospects in life who has a near-death experience that inspires her to live life more fully. Rothwell says the show is about a woman who has been sleepwalking through life and stops trying to please people. “How To Die Alone” premieres tomorrow on Hulu.
