Bryant Johnson had touchdown runs of 6 and 40 yards in the second half tonight for the Palo Verde football team in a 15-10 win over Basic.
The Panthers trailed 10-0 at halftime, but used about 150 rushing yards from Johnson to rally in the second half for their initial win of the season.
“We hadn’t been playing our best football. They decided to put a game together,” coach Joe Aznarez said.
The momentum changed at the end of the first half, Aznarez said, when Palo Verde limited Basic to a field goal attempt on a scoring drive deep into Palo Verde territory.
“That gave the kids some energy to build on,” Aznarez said.
Colten Thresher was one of the game’s unsung heroes, coming down with a 12-yard reception on a crucial fourth down play in the second half.
