Kicker Dax Arnold drilled a 39-yard field goal for the Green Valley football team Friday night to force overtime against Legacy and then hit a 24-yard attempt for the 38-35 win.
Green Valley won the overtime coin toss and elected to play defense. They forced Legacy until a field goal attempt — which wasn’t successful. After one play, Arnold was called to attempt the game winner.
“He was clutch,” coach Bill Powell said.
It was the third straight week the Gators’ game wasn’t decided until the final seconds, including rallying last week to beat Basic in the annual Henderson Bowl.
“It’s going to help us in the long run,” said Powell, who said Green Valley led by double digits and should have put in the game away.
Evan Williams caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Michael Lewis, and John Mancuso had an interception return for a score.
