Drew Dixon carried the ball 26 times for 160 yards and a touchdown Friday night for the host Virgin Valley football team in a 28-7 victory against Pahrump Valley.
Five Virgin Valley starters didn’t suit up, but coach Matt Woods said other players in the program filled in nicely to get the win. Four of the missing starters play both offense and defense.
“They had a chance to roll over and not show up, but they stepped up and played their guts out,” Woods said.
Parker Jensen had eight carries for 40 yards and a touchdown, and fill-in quarterback Elian Pinto — usually a wide receiver — carried the ball 10 times for 94 yards and two scores.
“I don’t know if I have ever been more proud of a team than I was of our (players) tonight,” Woods said.
