Metro: Suspect involved in nearly 30 burglaries in Las Vegas

Metro Police have activated their major case protocols for an “agency-wide approach” after a burglar suspected of robbing almost 30 businesses stole from three more early Wednesday morning, department officials said.

The burglaries, which have targeted businesses throughout the Spring Mountain corridor, began in June and have continued through the summer, officials said.

Security footage showed the suspect taking whole safes from businesses alongside cash and merchandise. Police say they don’t have an estimate on the total value of goods stolen.

Metro Assistant Sheriff Jamie Prosser said during a press conference Wednesday the department would be classifying the burglaries under its major case protocol. The protocol is typically reserved for high-profile or particularly violent cases, and utilizes cross-departmental approaches to apprehend perpetrators.

Investigators have not yet been able to identify the suspect, who robs businesses completely covered, including covering their face with a mask and wearing large welding gloves.

The suspect, who police believe is likely a male, can be seen in one Fusion Watch video provided by Metro crawling toward a business to stay out of sight of Metro’s camera.

In the latest string of robberies Wednesday morning, the suspect broke in and burgled three separate businesses within a 15-minute period. Officials are urging the public to provide any potential details about the suspect that may help police identify and arrest them.

“Someone knows this individual, someone knows what is occurring here,” Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez said.
