Damani Warren scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Thaddeus Thatcher with about 20 seconds remaining Friday night to lift the Arbor View football team to a 28-21 win over host Coronado.
The game was a battle of top teams in the Class 5A, Division I. Arbor View’s win, you could argue, put the Aggies in a good position to be hosting home playoff games when the postseason starts next month.
“We are taking it one game at a time,” coach Marlon Barnett said. “We are focused that no game is bigger than another.”
Arbor View closed with 14 unanswered points, evening the game at 21-all with a Thatcher to Jayden Williams scoring strike early in the fourth quarter. Thatcher and Nylen Johnson had touchdown runs.
The Arbor View defense was the difference in the second half with Christian Thatcher and Brian Townsend recording sacks.
“Defense played awesome,” Barnett said.
