Bishop Gorman utilized its bye week to get ready for the start of local play, coming out strong Friday night against rival Liberty in a 49-0 victory.
Landon McComber returned a fumble for a touchdown to pace the Gaels, while five different players had rushing touchdowns.
The Gaels, the defending state champions, went 3-1 in nonleague games — all against national opponents. They are widely considered the favorites to repeat.
“I thought we played really, really well,” coach Brett Browner said. “Having the bye, the coaches were able to have them prepared. We were methodical on offense and did a good job running the ball.”
Myles Norman, Champ Kapanui, Maika Eugenio, Brandon Gaea and Phillip Sampson had rushing touchdowns.
