Police union president launches bid for Las Vegas City Council

Las Vegas Police Protective Association President Steve Grammas announced his run for the Las Vegas City Council on Monday, rolling out a campaign website heavily promoting his experience in law enforcement.
Grammas, the union’s president for almost a decade, is challenging incumbent Councilwoman Nancy Brune in Ward 6. The ward encompasses the city’s northernmost district.
After joining the Metro Police in 1998, Grammas served as a police academy instructor, detective and field training officer.
“I love Las Vegas and have dedicated my life to keeping our city safe,” Grammas wrote on social media. “Though my role may be different, my mission will remain the same: ensuring that Las Vegas is one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family.”
City council seats are nonpartisan — although Grammas led the union in endorsing President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Grammas’ campaign pointed to the union leader’s involvement with the state legislature, highlighting his relationship with Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo and the administration’s crime bills.
“The organization has strengthened its voice and visibility, and Steve has become a tireless advocate for the men and women who serve in law enforcement,” his website reads. “He often says that ‘defending our first responders has been the honor of my life.’”
