State should lead on clean energy

I appreciated your article examining some of the great work being done by the Nevada Legislature this session on making Nevada the national leader in clean energy.

The story mentioned AB206, which would increase the renewable portfolio to 50 percent by 2030; AB223, which would provide new and extended energy-efficiency measures for small businesses, seniors and others on fixed incomes, as well as low-income homeowners and renters; and SB150, which sets guidelines for energy-efficient programs to benefit all Nevadans.

I strongly support all three of those measures, as do an overwhelming number of Nevada voters, based on the outcome of Question 3 on last year’s ballot.

There are about 20,000 clean-energy and energy-efficiency jobs in our state. We can only increase that number through these three measures and similar legislation. We will also see a lowering of the cost for energy for everyone, and we will retain some of the millions of dollars we pay for natural gas-generated energy we’re importing from other states.
