Javin White will continue his football career in Las Vegas for a sixth consecutive season.
The former UNLV defensive captain went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft but agreed to a free-agent contract with the Las Vegas Raiders shortly after the event’s seven rounds concluded Saturday afternoon. At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, he could be either a safety or a linebacker in the NFL.
White had an off-chance to become the first UNLV player to be drafted since center Joe Hawley in 2010 after a terrific senior year at linebacker where he totaled 79 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He committed to the Rebels out of McClymonds High School in Oakland, Calif., and redshirted one year before playing in each of the last four seasons.
White was a starter for the Rebels since he was a sophomore.
He was the only local the Raiders corralled after the draft, but they also signed a couple other Mountain West Conference products. Two Utah State players — wide receiver Siaosi Mariner and kicker Dominik Eberle — will go to training camp with the Raiders.
Eberle will have some company in the special teams ranks with Ohio State long snapper Liam McCullough. Two fellow Big Ten Conference players, Penn State tight end Nick Bowers and Michigan State defensive tackle Mike Panasiuk, are headed to the Raiders.
Las Vegas could potentially sign more free agents, but it has less space than many other NFL teams. With the six aforementioned free agents, the Raiders currently have 92 players under contract, according to sportrac.com. That puts them two over the 90-man limit and makes releases imminent.
