Two corrections officers were arrested today in the beating of a jail inmate in his cell after an argument with one of the officers, according to Metro Police.

A Clark County Detention Center inmate alleged on Feb. 21 that he was beaten by two officers during the night, police said. After the inmate’s allegation was reviewed by a supervisor and forwarded to the Internal Affairs Burea, the officers were relieved of duty the same day, police said.

A investigation by Metro indicated Officer Nicholas Diaz had a verbal altercation with an inmate while standing outside of a cell, police said.

Diaz walked away and returned a short time later with Officer Eduardo Bueno, police said. Both officers entered the inmate’s call and battered him, police said.

The officers were arrested today on counts of battery, a misdemeanor; oppression with force, a felony; and conspiracy to commit oppression with force, a gross misdemeanor, police said.

Diaz, 23, and Bueno, 28, have been with Metro since 2018, police said. Both officers were relieved of duty without pay pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings, police said.
