A man suspected in a shooting at a bank in the Spring Valley area this morning was in custody after a 90-minute “open-air” standoff with Metro Police, officials said.

Capt. Nichole Splinter said an officer fired several rounds at the suspect during a foot pursuit, but initial reports suggest the bullets missed him.

Gunfire first erupted about 9:10 a.m. at the Navy Federal credit union on Spring Mountain Road and Rainbow Boulevard, Connell said. A woman, who was struck multiple times, was stabilized at a hospital, police said.

Witnesses directed responding officers to the suspected shooter who took off running, Splinter said. It wasn’t clear where the officer opened fire or why.

About a couple of block north of the shooting location, the gunman “barricaded” himself at a parking lot, near Desert Inn Road, police said. SWAT officers were summoned and the area was contained, Splinter said.

About 90 minutes later, the man surrendered, Splinter said. Per Metro policy, the officer who opened fire will be identified within 48 hours, and Metro leadership will provide further details and show any body-worn camera footage about 24 hours afterward.

This was the second Metro-involved shooting this year. The Associated Press initially reported that the shooting stemmed from a bank robbery, but later clarified it was a domestic-related incident.
