The Nevada Highway Patrol today identified a DUI suspect who caused a wrong-way crash that killed two people Saturday morning on U.S. 95 near the Rancho Drive exit.
North Las Vegas resident Juan Cruz-Mexia, 26, is facing two counts of DUI resulting in death, and one misdemeanor traffic citation for driving the wrong way, the patrol said.
Las Vegas Justice Court records show that Cruz-Mexia, who suffered “serious” injuries, was being held at University Medical Center, where he remained as of this morning.
The victims were Rodolfo Robledo-Aguilar, 42, and Porfirio Robledo Gonzalez, 71, the patrol said.
The crash was reported about 8:10 a.m. on northbound lanes of the freeway.
The suspect’s Chevrolet Silverado was heading the wrong way when it struck the victims’ pickup truck head-on, the patrol said.
The Silverado went on to hit a second vehicle and catch fire, the patrol said. A fourth vehicle trying to avoid the victims’ truck hit it in the rear.
