UNLV basketball has said goodbye to another coach, as Tim Buckley left the program on Thursday to take an assistant job at South Carolina.

A UNLV source confirmed the move.

Buckley came to Las Vegas as part of T.J. Otzelberger’s initial staff in 2019 and served two years under Otzelberger. When Otzelberger left last offseason to become the head coach at Iowa State, Buckley stayed at UNLV as an assistant while fellow assistant Kevin Kruger was elevated to head coach.

Lamont Paris was named the head coach at South Carolina on March 24, and Buckley is his third and final assistant hire.

Buckley is the second assistant to exit the UNLV program in the past month, as Carlin Hartman left to join Todd Golden’s staff at Florida. For the time being, only Kruger and assistant Brandon Chappell remain. According to a source, UNLV is close to naming Hartman’s replacement.

Buckley was the head coach at Ball State from 2000 to 2006, then served nine years as an assistant at Indiana before jumping to an NBA scouting role with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2017 to 2019.
