Metro: Officer injured during traffic stop in Las Vegas; suspect in custody

A Metro Police officer was sent to the hospital Friday after a motorist reversed their car into the officer’s patrol vehicle following a traffic stop near downtown Las Vegas.

The officer — whom police did not identify — conducted a stop on an unidentified vehicle near northbound U.S. Highway 95 and northbound Interstate 15 just after 11:15 a.m., Metro said in a news release.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect vehicle, and a suspect was taken into custody near Baker, California, by the California Highway Patrol, a release announced later in the day.

The driver put the vehicle in reverse and struck the police vehicle before fleeing the scene, police said.

The officer was taken to UMC Trauma as a precaution and sustained minor injuries, according to the later release.

Delays in the area are expected while police investigate the scene, according to the release. A description of the suspect or vehicle was not provided.

No other information was released.
