Las Vegas driver charged with DUI, hit and run in woman’s death

A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle in an alleged hit and run by a driver who was also charged with a DUI this morning in Las Vegas, according to a Metro Police news release.

The collision occurred when a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by David Phillips, 72, of Las Vegas was traveling east on East Tropicana Avenue, east of Morris Street at around 11:15 a.m. The woman was crossing Tropicana on foot outside of a marked crosswalk when she was hit by the vehicle, police stated.

After the crash, Phillips allegedly left the scene.

The woman was transported to Sunrise Hospital’s Trauma Unit, where she was pronounced dead, according to the release.

Phillips was later located and showed signs of impairment, the release stated. He was arrested on DUI and hit-and-run related charges.
