Fire does about $100,000 damage to vacant building

Fire did about $100,000 in damage to a vacant building in downtown Las Vegas Monday night, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials said.

Nobody was injured, officials said.

The fire was reported about 11:50 p.m. at 17 East Oakey Boulevard, between Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the back of the single-story, wood-frame building, officials said. It took about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control and about two hours to put it out, officials said.

The fire heavily damaged about half of the building, officials said. The cause of the blaze has not been determined, officials said.

Callers to 911 said it appeared homeless people were evacuating the building after the fire started, officials said.

The Clark County Fire Department was also on the scene and assisted.
