Police: Woman, 77, critically injured when scooter hits box spring in road

A 77-year-old woman was critically injured Sunday when the scooter she was riding hit a box spring lying in the road, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. on Torrey Pines Drive north of Lake Mead Boulevard, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, was riding south on Torrey Pines and failed to see the debris in the road, police said. The scooter hit the box spring and overturned, police said.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
