Inmate walks away from corrections facility in Las Vegas

Another inmate walked away Monday from a Nevada Department of Corrections facility, according to authorities.

Ashley Daniels, 32, was determined missing about 5 a.m. Monday during an emergency count, the agency said.

He had left Casa Grande Transitional Housing — a center for certain offenders within 18 months of parole eligibility — Sunday afternoon and did not return at the end of his shift Monday morning, officials said.

Daniels had been serving a sentence of 18 to 48 months for attempted possession of a stolen vehicle since May 11, 2021, officials said.

A retake warrant was issued for Daniels, and local law enforcement have been notified, the corrections department said.

Daniels is the second inmate to walk away from Casa Grande Transitional Housing this week, after 51-year-old Robert Munoz did not return to the center Wednesday from an appointment at a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Las Vegas.

Munoz, who was serving a sentence for three counts of grand larceny and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, was recaptured Thursday, officials said.

Inmate Jeremiah Nichols, 32, also walked away from Casa Grande Transitional Housing earlier this year when he did not return from a work detail in May.

Due to an “oversight” by the corrections department, a return warrant was not issued, and he was arrested and released twice before being taken back into custody and held, officials said.
