Man accused of killing roommate after argument in Las Vegas

A man was charged with murdering his roommate after an argument Monday morning in Las Vegas, according to a Metro Police news release.

Officers were dispatched to a report of an unconscious man with a possible gunshot wound at a residence near the 3500 block of San Francisco Avenue at about 5:49 a.m. Monday. Officers located the victim and arriving medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, the report stated.

The investigation indicated the victim had been in a verbal argument with his roommate, later identified as Jesus Mendoza-Zarate, 24. The argument escalated to a physical altercation during which Mendoza-Zarate took out a handgun and shot the victim, according to police.

Mendoza-Zarate was taken to Clark County Detention Center, where he was booked for open murder.

The victim’s identification and the cause and manner of his death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
