Las Vegas police: Infant dies after crash involving fleeing vehicle

A 6-month-old boy injured in a crash last month involving a vehicle fleeing after another collision has died, according to Metro Police.

The deadly crash happened about 7:40 p.m. on Feb. 25 at South Nellis Boulevard and East Vegas Valley Drive, police said.

A pickup truck was fleeing a non-injury hit-and-run collision at at Nellis and Sahara Avenue, police said. The truck was southbound on Nellis, approaching the intersection with Vegas Valley at a high rate of speed, police said.

The truck ran a red light and collided with a car that was going through the intersection on Vegas Valley on a green light, police said.

All four occupants of the car — three adults and the infant— were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Metro said they were notified Thursday by the Clark County Coroner’s Office that the child had died at the hospital.

The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old Las Vegas woman, suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody, according to police.

She showed signs of impairment and was ultimately arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on related counts, police said, without providing more specifics.

The driver of an SUV that was stopped at a red light and was struck by the pickup also suffered minor injuries, police said.
