Woman killed in collision involving 6 vehicles in Spring Valley

Several people suffered serious injuries and a woman was killed in a collision involving six vehicles Tuesday afternoon in in Spring Valley, according to a Metro Police news release.

The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. on West Desert Inn Road east of the South Jones Boulevard intersection, the release stated. A police investigation indicates a 2005 Nissan Titan was traveling west on Desert Inn lost control of the vehicle while changing lanes, causing it to strike the rear of a 2013 Honda Civic sitting in the left turn lane, which then struck the rear of the vehicle in front of it, causing a domino effect for traffic in that lane. The Nissan then crossed the center median forcing the driver of a 2019 Tesla Model 3 to swerve to avoid hitting it, causing it to strike the center median. The front of the Nissan then struck the front of a 2010 Ford Flex, which was also traveling east and carrying five people.

All of the occupants of the Ford and the driver of the Nissan were transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance for their injuries, the release stated. One of the Ford’s passengers, a 73-year-old woman died at the hospital. The 63-year-old driver of the Nissan was listed in serious condition as was a 70-year-old woman who had been in the Ford.

Passengers of some of the other vehicles reported injuries, but none were serious.
