WASHINGTON -- It’s not something you hear every day, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said this afternoon that Democrats stand ready to work with President Bush to secure mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Usually combatant congressional Democrats and the Bush administration are on the same page after the government enterprises’ stock dip last week rattled the markets.
“We need to make sure the American people understand that we're going to do what it takes to stabilize those two entities so that people can continue to buy homes and in the process get decent loans,” Reid said.
