'Vegas Strip Search' with Jeff Civillico

Even the most jaded audience member would have to say it was a de-lovely time.

Clint Holmes’ performances at Cabaret Jazz in The Smith Center for the Performing Arts over the weekend were recorded and banked for an upcoming CD. These were unique performances in that Smith Center President Myron Martin addressed the crowd from the stage and recited a list of do’s and don’t’s (“Don’t slide the chairs, don’t order a drink during “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” no horseplay, that sort of thing).

Holmes delivered his customarily resounding, and Bistro Award-winning, showcase titled “This Thing Called Love: Cole Porter & Paul Simon.”

It’s the first time a live CD recording has been attempted at Cab Jazz, though it likely won’t be the last given the room’s acoustic qualities. The Smith Center is funding the production and has plans to distribute the CD.

Holmes’ shows Saturday and Sunday also were filmed, or rather captured on digital visual recording equipment, for a possible special or DVD or maybe for use around the Holmes house.

Holmes is taking the act on the road in June, to San Francisco, where he is booked as one of the first artists to perform at the new Feinstein’s outpost taking over Live at the Razz on Van Ness Avenue in the historic Cadillac Building.

The plan is for a bunch of us tourists from Las Vegas to show up in oversized shorts, flip-flops and “Property of Las Vegas County Jail” T-shirts drinking flat beer from plastic footballs. Really set the tone for this club, y’know?

The dates are June 12-16. Pack accordingly.
