Sequoia Holmes makes Houston roster in WNBA

UNLV basketball star Sequoia Holmes made the final roster of the Houston Comets of the WNBA.

She's the third Lady Rebel to play in the WNBA, joining Linda Frohlich and Pauline Jordan.

Holmes, who earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, was scheduled to go through graduation ceremonies on Saturday. Instead, she'll be wearing No. 17 with the Comets as they open their season against the Shock in Detroit.

The 6 foot 1 guard-forward wasn't drafted by the WNBA but joined the Comets in training camp and survived the final cut today. Two other former UNLV players were cut this wee. Frohlich, who was trying to return to the WNBA after playing in Italy, was cut by the Sacramento Monarch and Constance Jinks was waived by the Indiana Fever.

Holmes led the Mountain West Conference in scoring this season with 18.3 points per game and was third in the league in rebounding with 7.3 per game and in steals with 2.33 per game. She was named to the all-conference team three times and was defensive player of last year. She finished her UNLV career with 1,485 points, ranking her seventh among all-time UNLV scorers.

She starred at Mojave High before coming to UNLV.
