The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Miami minus-3.5 at Boston College: $550 to win $500

This is a little tougher ask with the extra half-point — Miami was a slam dunk at minus-3 — but there’s still value. The Hurricanes have too much talent not to be favored by a little more over Boston College.

They’ve also gotten healthier out of a bye week. That makes Miami even more undervalued as it had already taken too much of a hit in perception after losing a pair of games to Virignia and LSU.

The Hurricanes played well in both contests, as they were unlucky to lose to the Cavaliers and just came out slow against the Tigers. The LSU loss also looks a lot more forgivable after what it’s gone on to accomplish throughout the season.

There’s a lot of excitement with Boston College running back A.J. Dillon returning, but Miami is stacked up front on defense. It ranks in the nation’s top 20 in giving up 3.4 yards per rushing attempt against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents.

The Hurricanes will get back into the ACC race tonight.

Current Standings: Keefer (12-12-1, $8,181), Grimala (10-8, $7,815), Brewer (5-11-1, $4,600)
