The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Los Angeles Lakers plus-2 at Denver Nuggets: $550 to win $500
The Lakers are too good of a team to be an underdog, even if it's to the Nuggets. They're arguably the best team in basketball and Denver is at worst, what? Third-best? Fourth?
Still, Los Angeles is a wrecking ball this season. It has lost just three of its first 20 games this season and hasn't had much issue dismantling every opponent along the way.
And the Nuggets are really good. They're coming off a tough road loss to the Kings and return home to face the Lakers in what might end up being a Western Conference Finals preview.
This game is pretty close to a pick 'em in my mind. And if the Lakers get two points against anybody, I'll take that every time.
