New York-New York sues contractors over ADA issues

MGM MIRAGE's New York-New York hotel-casino sued 14 contractors and subcontractors, alleging they failed to make the Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

In a Clark County District Court lawsuit, New York-New York alleged the defendants' negligence caused the hotel-casino to incur "architect's fees, engineer fees, expert fees, consulting fees and other associated costs of repair."

The suit said New York-New York received from the United States Department of Justice on March 21, 1997, a proposed draft settlement agreement resolving the government's claims that the hotel-casino wasn't ADA-compliant.

The suit said the government said there were ADA deficiencies in public accommodations at the hotel including its public entrance and guest rooms. Problem areas included pedestrian bridges, sidewalks, alarms, guest room doors and bathrooms as well as room telephones.

Marnell Corrao Associates Inc. of Las Vegas, a major casino builder and one of the defendants, declined comment on the allegations. The other 13 defendants could not be reached.
