Program brings in students from around the world

If you're in a Las Vegas-area high school, don't be surprised if the new face in your physics class is from France.

Or if the new person in your journalism class is from Japan. And if the guy next to you in geometry is from Germany.

Some 125 high school foreign exchange students from 30 different countries will be attending Clark County high schools this school year, according to the Clark County School District.

All of the school district's foreign exchange students will be living with voluntary host families and are sponsored by foreign exchange organizations that have been approved by the U.S. State Department.

The organizations have also been recommended by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel and are approved by the district for placement.

The countries in the exchange program include Brazil, China, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Japan, Kuwait, Poland, Serbia, Sount Korea, Spain, Thailand and The Netherlands.

"This program offers our community a golden opportunity to share our culture with other people and also learn about their unique experiences and customs," said James Yoder with the school district's K-12 foreign language department.
