Public input sought on Red Rock trail

Outdoor enthusiasts will have an opportunity next month to voice their opinions on a possible recreational trail through the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The Bureau of Land Management will host an open house from noon to 8 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the BLM office at 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive to gather public input about the possibility of a non-motorized, multi-use trail that will roughly parallel State Route 159.

The open house will focus on corridor options and connections, and will have two presentations that will summarize the trail corridor options and design guidelines. After the presentations, which are from 12:15 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., attendees will work in small groups to discuss the options and provide input to the BLM.

This study, which is funded by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, is the first step in the trail planning process. Funding for the trail has yet to be secured.
