Pedestrian dies after falling into road at bus stop

UPDATE: Man who fell into street, run over, identified

A pedestrian was killed Saturday afternoon along West Charleston Boulevard after falling from a curb and into the path of a car at a bus stop.

Metro Police responded at about 4:45 p.m. to the collision at a bus stop west of Charleston Boulevard's intersection with Brush Street on the north side of the road.

Witnesses told investigators a 2006 Chrysler was westbound in the right lane when a man seated at the bus stop leaned forward from a sitting position. The man then fell into the road and into the path of the Chrysler, Metro Police said.

The driver wasn't able to stop before colliding with the man. The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The pedestrian's name wasn't being released Saturday night pending notification of family. The driver of the Chrysler, Deborah Shields, 54, and a passenger, Kay Shields, 49, both of Las Vegas, weren't injured.

The death is the 89th traffic fatality in the jurisdiction of Metro Police this year.
