ROADWORK ROUNDUP:

Centennial Hills transit center construction closes road

Construction in the new Centennial Hills transit center and Park and Ride facility is causing road closures and lane restrictions near Durango Road and U.S. 95 in northwest Las Vegas.

Traffic on Elkhorn Road from Grand Montecito Parkway to Dillseed Drive has been diverted to one lane in each direction since Monday. The road should reopen by Aug. 10.

Oso Blanca Road is temporarily closed from Durango Drive to the entrance of Mountain Ridge Park, just south of Elkhorn Road. The road is expected to reopen by the beginning of December.

The new $11 million transit center will include about 900 parking spaces, passenger drop-off areas, bike storage and an air-conditioned building for passengers to wait for buses.

It will also be one end of a new bus line -- the ACExpress C line -- that will take advantage of HOV lanes on U.S. 95 to travel to downtown Las Vegas, then continue to the Strip and UNLV.

Construction on the facility began in June and is scheduled to open to the public in January.

Work on Martin L. King to close freeway ramps

The freeway ramps that connect Martin Luther King Boulevard to U.S. 95 and Interstate 15 at the Spaghetti Bowl will be closed for two weeks beginning Aug. 3.

The closures will allow crews to repave the roadway under U.S. 95 as part of the ongoing widening of Martin Luther King, city of Las Vegas spokeswoman Debby Ackerman said.

The ramps from Martin Luther King to get onto Interstate 15 and U.S. 95, and the ramp from northbound U.S. 95 to Martin Luther King are expected to reopen on Aug. 15.

Two new ramps connecting Martin Luther King to U.S. 95 are scheduled to open in September.

Martin Luther King Boulevard has been under construction between Alta Drive and Carey Avenue since March 2008. The 2 1/2-mile stretch of road is being widened to three lanes in each direction.

The $45 million project includes utility work and the installation of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, landscaped median islands and street lighting. Five traffic signals will be upgraded as part of the project and a new signal at Discovery Drive went into service in February.

Work on the road is expected to be completed by March 2010.

NDOT wants new bridge to Arizona built in Laughlin

The Nevada Department of Transportation is holding two public meetings about a proposed bridge across the Colorado River to connect Laughlin and Bullhead City, Ariz.

The bridge would be the second to connect the two communities. The existing bridge for State Route 163 crosses where the river is less than 2,000 feet wide.

NDOT says a new bridge would provide increased mobility and safety, improve regional connectivity and allow for better access between the communities.

The meetings will be held Aug. 12 at Bullhead City Hall and Aug. 13 at the Laughlin Regional Government Center. Both events will be open from 4 to 7 p.m., with brief presentations made at 4:30 and 6 p.m.

Comments about the proposed project can be submitted to NDOT at the meeting by mailing Steve Crooke, NDOT Environmental Services Division, 1263 South Stewart Street, Carson City, NV 89712; by calling 775-888-7013; or e-mailing [email protected].

More information about the project is available here.

Sewer Work to affect traffic in Laughlin

Sewer work in Laughlin will close lanes on Bruce Woodbury Drive from Thomas Edison Drive to Casino Drive.

The lane restrictions begin Monday to allow the Clark County Water Reclamation District to rehabilite a sewer lift station and replace force mains in the area.

Travel lanes on Bruce Woodbury will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The dedicated turn lane onto Casino Drive will also be closed. Drivers will be able to access Casino Drive from the main eastbound lane.

The lanes are expected to reopen at the end of October.
