Firefighters battle blaze at Henderson home; no injuries

Fire location

Firefighters extinguished a blaze Saturday morning at a home in Henderson.

The Henderson Fire Department responded at 9:15 a.m. to the report of a fire in the garage at 404 Ash St., which is near the intersection of East Lake Mead Drive and Warm Springs Road. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage.

Battalion Chief Mike Gibson said the occupants of the home and pets were able to escape unharmed and no one was injured.

The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes. Most of the fire was contained to the garage, although the attic and part of the home sustained smoke damage, Gibson said.

Officials said 26 fire personnel responded to the blaze, including four fire engines, one truck company, two rescue trucks, a battalion chief and a fire investigator.

A building inspector determined that the home would require repairs before its three occupants could return. The Red Cross is helping the three people who were displaced.

The fire cause appears to be accidental in nature and is still under investigation, Gibson said. Damage was estimated at $40,000 with an additional $10,000 in damage to contents.
