A woman was found dead after a standoff came to an end early this morning in the northeast Las Vegas Valley. The woman's boyfriend was arrested in connection with her death.

Police responded about 8:45 p.m. Monday to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex at 3804 Terrazzo Ave., which is near Las Vegas Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue.

Metro Police spokesman Marcus Martin said neighbors reported hearing screaming and shots fired. Roommates ran from the apartment, police said.

"The subject managed to break all of the windows out," Martin said. "Then officers arrived and he actually fired at units."

An officer returned fire, but the man -- identified this afternoon as Michael Long, 28, of Las Vegas -- wasn't injured. Long barricaded himself inside the apartment and SWAT negotiators arrived, police said.

He surrendered at 1:04 a.m. and was taken into custody. Police then found a woman believed to be Long's girlfriend dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman's name will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Long was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center in connection with first-degree kidnapping with a weapon, resisting a police officer, four counts of attempted murder of a police officer and murder with a deadly weapon.

Several nearby apartments were evacuated during the standoff.
