Apartment fire
A fire caused minor damage to an apartment this morning in the western Las Vegas Valley.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded at 5:27 a.m. to the fire at the Sierra Oeste Townhouses, 1924 Lirio Way, which is near Lake Mead Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive.
Neighbors told firefighters they thought the occupant of the apartment was out of town, but investigators found the front door open and one person inside. Firefighters found a mattress on fire in the rear bedroom, which was extinguished within minutes.
Smoke damage was confined to the bedroom. Smoking materials and candles were found throughout the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
