Health District puts restaurant inspection reports online

A new online database may cause customers to lose their appetites before even stepping inside some Las Vegas eateries.

The Southern Nevada Health District announced it is beginning to post health inspections for all food establishments in Clark County online.

Officials said the health inspections — one of the most requested types of public records — provide a snapshot of the day and time of the inspection. New reports will be posted within five business days of completion.

The inspection process weighs risk factors that contribute to food-borne illnesses more heavily than design, maintenance or general sanitation, officials said. That process culminates with a letter grade ranging from an "A" to a "C" — or, in a worst-case scenario, a facility closure.

The site will include inspection reports from as far back as 2005, as well as updated information about the food establishment inspection program and a tool for the public to provide feedback to improve the site. People still can request full copies of inspection reports for a fee by submitting a public records request, officials said.
