A plea agreement could still be in the works for Marisol Diaz, 16, one of the six defendants accused of murder in the robbery, beating and eventual death last year of a Las Vegas teacher.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Robert Daskas had earlier asked for Diaz’s trial to be taken off the court calendar and scheduled a court hearing for this morning, also indicating a possible plea agreement might be announced.

However, that didn't happen.

Daskas asked Judge James Brennan to set another court date for a status check in the hearing, indicating that negotiations were still ongoing. Brennan set the next court date for 9 a.m. Sept. 14.

Diaz, who is being represented by attorney Robert Langford, is one of the youngest of the defendants indicted for murder and numerous felonies in five separate robberies and attacks, including one that led to the death of VanDerbosh, a 50-year-old Eldorado High School physics and chemistry teacher. VanDerbosh died when he was hit by a truck after being attacked on Oct. 20, 2010, while walking to school.

One of the defendants, Daniel Carrillo, 16, has made a plea agreement rather than going to trial and is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Sept. 23 by Clark County District Judge Jennifer Togliatti.

Carrillo had been charged with 24 felonies, including murder with a deadly weapon, but pleaded guilty to 11 felonies, including second-degree murder for VanDerbosch’s death.

The indictment against the defendants says the teacher was robbed using a firearm and/or a knife and hit and/or kicked in the head and body, causing him to fall into the road, where he was fatally struck by a truck. He died at University Medical Center.

Bridget Lugo, 20, will have her jury trial at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 5, and Marcos Coronel Castrejon, 20, will have his trial at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21.

Two defendants are facing the death penalty. Saul Farvela, 19, will have his trial at 10:30 a.m. March 5, 2012. And David Rosas, 20, will have his trial at 10:30 a.m. April 9, 2012.
