Sun Archives
Navigating any website can present struggles for even the most-seasoned Web users, especially if they’re unfamiliar with the site.
The Sun, which uses local government websites on a daily basis, tried an experiment to see which of those sites were easiest for finding a specific piece of information – a telephone number – with the fewest amount of clicks of the mouse. The findings:
-
Clark County
Site: clarkcountynv.gov
Number of clicks from home page to find phone number of any county commissioner: 3
Click on “Elected Officials.”
Click on any name.
Click on “Contact Us.”
-
Las Vegas
Site: lasvegasnevada.gov
Number of clicks from home page to find phone number of city manager: 1
Click on “Mayor” under the “About us→City Government” pull-down menu.
Contact information is at far right of page, however it is not specifically marked as the mayor’s phone number.
-
Henderson
Site: cityofhenderson.com
Number of clicks from home page to find phone number of the mayor: 1
Click on “Contact Us” near top of home page; scroll down to Mayor and Council.
*Note: Clicking the "Mayor's Office" link on home page will not lead you directly to a phone number for the mayor; you'll have to go back to the home page and start your search for the number anew.
-
North Las Vegas
Site: cityofnorthlasvegas.com
Number of clicks from home page to find phone number of the mayor: 1
Click on “How to Contact” at top of home page.
-
Boulder City
Site: bcnv.org/
Number of clicks from home page to find phone number of the mayor: 2
Click on “Mayor Roger Tobler under "City Council" at top of home page.
