Tod Story, a longtime aide to Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, is the new exective director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada.

Story, who has served as the organization’s interim executive director since Feb. 1, was named to the permanent post on Friday with a public announcement made Tuesday.

“The board is delighted to name Tod as our executive director,” said Robert N. Chester, president of the board of directors of the Nevada ACLU affiliate. He was chosen after an extensive, nationwide, four-month search. We found his commitment to civil rights, equality and justice in Nevada, together with his energy, enthusiasm and experience to be the right fit for our organization and our mission.”

Story, who has lived in Nevada since 1984, most recently served as district director for Berkley for 14 years. Before that, Story was an aide to U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan (D-NV). Story graduated from UNLV with a bachelor’s degree in communications, with an emphasis in public relations and political science. He has volunteered with community groups and nonprofit organizations for many years.

Story replaces Dane Claussen, who had been executive director since 2011. Claussen, citing unspecified personal reasons, stepped down from the post effective Jan.31.
