Las Vegas woman pleads guilty to faking accidents for money

A 48-year-old Las Vegas woman who prosecutors say staged accidents in businesses and then collected insurance payouts for her supposed injuries has pleaded guilty to fraud.

The Nevada Attorney General's office said Mary Yonko pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of felony insurance fraud.

Prosecutors say Yonko would enter a business and wait until she was alone before getting on the floor and telling other people that she'd fallen.

Officials say she'd then file a claim with the business or their insurance carrier and request compensation for her alleged injuries.

Authorities say she pulled the stunt in at least ten businesses in 2008 and 2009, and collected more than $30,000 in payouts.

She's being ordered to pay back the businesses and could face years in prison at sentencing Oct. 2.
