That was Basic’s strategy Friday night, a strategy it used to run past Del Sol 34-13.
“We just handed the ball off all night,” Basic coach Jeff Cahill said. “It was a running-heavy game plan.”
For Del Sol, too. The Dragons actually caught the Wolves off-guard with their rushing attack and trailed only 15-7 at halftime.
Cahill said his team struggled with the double-wing, which they had never seen before, before adjustments were made at halftime. Then Basic ran away with the contest.
Stephen Crum, Chandler Kamai and Wallonzo Whipple all had fumble recoveries and big games for the resilient defense.
Basic travels to face Southeast division king Liberty next week.
